World Menopause Month — Taking Care of You

Although October (Menopause Awareness Month) is nearly over, this is something that deserves attention all year round. I wanted to share a few thoughts and how holistic therapies — and a bit of self-kindness — can really help through menopause and beyond.
October 18th was World Menopause Day. This year’s theme for World Menopause Day was Lifestyle Medicine, which focuses on the everyday choices that support our wellbeing — things like rest, nutrition, movement, and stress management.
For many women, menopause can bring symptoms that can be challenging and overwhelming, taking their toll both physically and emotionally. I have been affected by several of these symptoms, especially disrupted sleep, muscle aches, anxiety, and brain fog. Of course, these are just a few of the many symptoms women can experience — from hot flushes and mood swings to changes in skin, digestion, and energy levels. It’s such a personal journey, and no two experiences are ever quite the same.
These are all signs from your body asking for a bit more care and compassion.
I always remind others to take time for themselves, but like so many of us, I don’t always take my own advice — even though I know just how important self-care really is. Over the past few months, I’ve been reminded just how much even small moments of rest and mindfulness can help calm the nervous system and ease tension.
Massage can make a real difference here. It helps to:
Ease muscle and joint aches — by improving circulation and reducing stiffness.
Promote better sleep — through deep relaxation and nervous system balance.
Soothe anxiety and overwhelm — by helping your body release tension and encouraging a sense of calm.
Facials and Menopause — A Little Time to Nourish Your Skin and Mind
One of the things I’ve noticed through menopause is how much it can affect the skin. It can feel drier, more sensitive, and sometimes just not quite itself. A good facial can make such a difference — not just for the skin, but for how you feel.
During a facial, the gentle massage helps boost circulation, encourages a healthy glow, and gives your skin that bit of extra nourishment it needs. I use soothing, hydrating products to calm the skin and restore some balance, but the real magic is often in the relaxation itself — giving yourself permission to slow down and switch off for a while.
Taking that quiet time to rest can be just as important as the treatment. Whether it’s part of a regular routine or a one-off treat, a facial can leave you feeling refreshed, nurtured, and more like you again.
During October, I’ve been offering the Hot Stone Deluxe Indulgence at my Wellness Treatment Room and Pitmilly— a two-hour treatment including a facial, plus a free aromatherapy oil add-on. It’s designed to nurture both skin and spirit, especially at a time when your body may be asking for extra care. This amazing treatment has proved to be very popular while on offer for £80 and this offer will be extended until end of November.
Let’s keep the conversation about menopause open and honest. Our bodies deserve kindness, patience, and time to renew — at every stage of life.
